Southam pick up the points1st XV: Southam
48 Bredon Star 0 (Friendly fixture) FOR the second time this month Southam were awarded the Midland Division Five West (South) points after, rock-bottom opponents Bredon Star could not raise a side. It means Southam have been awarded four points against the two weakest teams in the league but the score goes down as 0-0 which did not help their points difference. It was president's day and Andy Mitchell had rounded up a large crowd for lunch which meant frantic work for fixture secretary Andy Else who pleaded with Bredon Star to turn up and play the match as a friendly. Southam lent the Tewkesbury visitors four experienced players and ran out 48-0 winners in what proved a good workout in preparation for the promotion run in. Flanker Mark Constable ran in from 30 metres to score the opening try after 15 minutes which was converted by Pete Bicknell. Further first half tries followed from scrum half Rob Pelter and centre Bicknell which secured a 17-0 interval advantage. Southam kept the ball alive and spun it out wide at every opportunity with centre Peter Burnell going over for a try which Roger Killick converted. Wing Tim Gray scored twice as did lock Eric Leeson with Bicknell converting. Southam resume their promotion challenge against Stoke OB this Saturday. The 3rds lost 24-10 at Shottery. Fly-half Dan Mcbernie scored a try, conversion and drop goal, while Barry Flint and Simon Millar enjoyed good games. |
