Southam punished for late defensive lapse 1st XV: Daventry 19 Southam 16 MUCH-CHANGED Southam performed well despite losing to higher league Daventry on Saturday. In conditions more associated to mud wrestling the game proved highly entertaining and surprisingly the ill was passed in the direction of the wingers but not ways finding the target. Daventry started well and scored two tries, one of which was converted, before Southam responded with a try by centre Pete Bicknell. The visitors closed the gap two points just before the interval thanks to a well taken try from flanker Liam Munro. Southam edged ahead with 17-year-old centre Tom Grimes neatly slotting over two well judged penalties but a bad defensive lapse allowed Daventry to snatch victory with a converted try five minutes from' time. Munro, Ed Ellis and Jim Frogley formed an excellent back row, while young scrum half Blake Summers caught the eye. The 2nds, boosted by four opposition colts, suffered 27-2 defeat at Daventry. Scruff scored the consolation try which was converted by Greg Steele. |
