Mar 29th - Warks Vets Tournament
Mark Harvey rounded up a few old stalwarts to
participate in this years Warwickshire 15 a side Vets
Tournament. With good turn out of 25 players Southam had
a competitive which lost narrowly to Old Coventrians,
soundly beat Leamington, were beaten by Old Laurentians
and beat Broadstreet.
This put us 3rd and we won the Plate.
Players of the day were Harv's mate Ondey, Tim Gray
and Crossy who never stopped moaning, although when he
hurt his ribs in the last game at least had a reason to
moan.
Good weather, no major injuries except for Si Millers
ankle a good day!

Saturday
Mar 21st - Warks Shield - Southam
27 Kersley 21
Southam
yet again fielded a different side to the week before however this
time it was in the cup and not the league. Southam dominated in
almost every area of the park and there was some promising signs
of players coming through and there were debuts to no fewer than 9
players. All these participated well against an ill disciplined
Kersley side that at one point only had 13 players on the park
along with 2 other sin bins. Southam however continued to play
rugby and were rewarded with a half time score of 22- 11
Southam’s points came courtesy of tries from Pete Burnell, Tom
Wright and Jamie Constable with Tom Robinson adding 2 conversions
and a penalty. The second half saw southam ease of a bit and let
Kersley back into the game and when playing rugby they looked a
useful outfit but Southam sealed victory with another try for
centre Pete Burnell. Graham
Ferris, Austin Winfield played well in the forwards whilst Pete
Burnell, Tom Wright and Jamie Constable shone for the backs.
Next weeks fixtures are :- 1st XV - Edwardians (league)
home KO 2.30
2nd XV - Pinley - away

Help with U 17's Coaching Required
Southam
RUFC U17's have been a great success and since they were
formed by Dan Bachelor in 2007, they have had over 40
players turn out and represented at district and county
level (more info here).
This year Carl Batchelder has coached them, but next
year he is unavailable due a trip around the world.
So we are looking for a new coach / assistant coaches /
helpers / drivers for next year. So any club members, U17
parents or coaches interested helping out next season,
please speak to a committee member, email us at info@southamrufc.org.uk
or speak directly to Carl Batchelder on 07800938798
U17’s
Rugby is a great age group to work with and the
development of the players is a great area to coach in, so
get involved.
